Harford HackerSpace

I've got the whole world, in my hands..

By Jeff Kohrman

“HackerSpaces are sprouting up all over this big blue blueberry of a planet, and each one has something unique to offer”

The HackerSpace we feature today is Harford HackerSpace (or HaHa), located in Baltimore, Maryland.  HaHa started after David, the current president of Harford HackerSpace, took a trip to HacDC, another HackerSpace, for their RepRap Build-A-Thon.  There, he was immediately struck by the incredible atmosphere of having a room full of hackers all working together.  As soon as he returned from HacDC, he went to work recruiting members to start his very own HackerSpace.  And he sure did find some awesome people; From microbiology to robotics research, the members of this HackerSpace have come together to form a force to be reckoned with.

The members of HaHa all seem relatively comfortable with some pretty impressive subjects, like PIC Microcontrollers, robotics, and DIY CNC.  They’re also more than willing to share their ‘Space and information.

“The first order of business for new members is simply to socialize and get to know everyone.  As you start your own projects, the other members will gladly show you what you need for your project.”

Good to know, and awesome that they’re welcoming of all talents and skill levels.

Currently, all the members of Harford HackerSpace are enjoying separate projects, and helping eachother where and when they need it.

“I’m [David] working on an Underwater ROV, Jason is working on an Audio project and is building his own wind instrument, Gary is building a hexapod robot, and Paul is writing PIC code for an awesome LED display project.”

Sounds like a good time to me!  But that’s  not all these guys do.  They’ve even been involved in RobotFest 2010, where they made cardboard robot kits for kids to assemble.

They [HaHa] have meetings every Wednesday at 7pm, and can be reached any time on their website.  So if you’re in the Baltimore area, head on out and meet some awesome people!  Or at least check out their beastly CNC machine..

Also, be sure to take a look at their PIC Tutorials!
