What do you do when you need a quick cheap practice amp? Go to the thrift store and grab a tape player!
This simple hack uses only a cassette player and a 1/4″ mono phono jack. Seriously, that’s it.
Okay, take your tape player, and open the case. See that little metallic square where the magnetic tape runs across? That’s the magnetic reader, if you didn’t already guess. There are four wires going to it, they should be paired in two’s. Snip the red and white paired wires (these may be different colors on yours), and connect them to the positive pin of your phono jack. Next, connect the other two wires to the ground pin. Power it up (try pressing Play), and plug in your guitar. The end.

Note: I’ve noticed a large amount of feedback at higher volumes, anyone else get this? Also, on smaller cassette players, there may be only two wires. Wire this project the same as you would, just don’t pair the wires together.
